Opening Question: What is one of the most dangerous situations you’ve ever been in?
Preface: Observing the 3rd world via social media is radically different than in person.
[Verse #1]: 2 Corinthians 4:18 – As we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
- Question#1 What are things in life that you value at work or school that are UNSEEN?
- Question#2 What are things in life that you value in a dating relationship?
- Question#3: What are things in life that you would value if you knew you only had 3 days left to live?
[Verse #2]: Isaiah 55:8-9 – For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
- Question#1: (As a society): What are things morally considered ethical but circumstances can justify NOT thinking about? EG: Money to the homeless, going vegan, all drive smart cars
- Question#2: (You an individual): What are things in YOU tend to think about but you know you shouldn’t think about but you do? EG: Premeditated excuses why I was late/ justifications for sin.
[Verse #3]: 1 Timothy 6:6-8 – But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. 8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
- Question #1: What have you observed in social media or on TV from 3rd world countries that would negatively impact your life goals if you were raised there?
- Question#2: If I told you with absolutely certainty that you would live a life of poverty , and you believed me, how would you feel about that?
- Question #3: What do you think the difference is between YOU and the South Asian believers in God that makes them feel successful despite material gain?
Challenge: If I observed anything in my time in South Asia, it was that the believers did not allow their circumstances to dictate their joy, their willingness to serve, nor their love for one another. I was challenged beyond measure to overcome my circumstances and to seek God with all my heart because only when I let go of my material goals can I recognize the depth of God’s purpose for my life. While I indeed was placed here in the first world, the fact remains, I am here and here for a purpose. I encourage all of you here to consider deeply, to study the Bible with the person who invited you out and STUDY OUT how to seek God with your whole heart because He and He alone placed you in the first world. It wasn’t to make money, but to make a difference…..
And that’s Bible Talk…….
