Opening Question:        What would the title be if someone wrote a book about you?

Preface:          Around 600BC there was a 26 year old ruler of Judah, King Josiah. Some construction workers in the temple found what we now know as the Old Testament; this was his reaction:

[Verse #1:          2 Kings 22:11 &13

“ Now it happened, when the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, that he tore his clothes. [and then said], “Go and inquire of the Lord for me and for the people and for all Judah about what is written in this book that has been found. Great is the Lord’s anger that burns against us because those who have gone before us have not obeyed the words of this book; they have not acted in accordance with all that is written there concerning us.”

  • Question#1           Pointed Q: What is the first thing Josiah did after hearing the words of the book?
  • Question#2           Put yourself in Josiah’s shoes; why do you think he felt this way about the Word’s of God?
  • Question#3:          Slightly off topic: What do you think is the purpose of the bible?
  • Question#4:          God’s reaction to our disobedience is a “burning anger” , what is your reaction to your own sin?

[Verse #2:]             2 Kings 23:3

“The king stood by the pillar and renewed the covenant in the presence of the Lord—to follow the Lord and keep his commands, statutes and decrees with all his heart and all his soul, thus confirming the words of the covenant written in this book. Then all the people pledged themselves to the covenant.”

  • Question#1:         Is it possible to go after something in life if you arent familiar with the details it involves? Example?
  • Question#2:        What priority do you put on the words of the Bible in your daily agenda?
  • Question#3:        How does this “all your heart” look in modern day? ( lead answers toward Acts 2 lifestyles + confession )

Challenge:               When King Josiah heard God’s standard for life, he tore his clothes because he saw where he was. He was compelled to make a radical change that effected both himself and the nation. God’s word has been set before you. Are you willing to make the radical change? I challenge each and every one of you to study or continue to study the Bible with the person that invited you here so you too can gain the conviction he had.

And that’s Bible Talk…….
