Do you trust God or reason?

Bible Talk : Brice Williams

 Topic: Trust

Topic Name: Do you trust God or reason?

Opening Question:

Q: What is something that you feel very trustworthy in giving or providing?

[Verse] 1:  Matthew 14: 28-31

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

“Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”  Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith, “he said, “why did you doubt?”

Q1):     What is the feeling that Peter failed to preserver over? (doubt / lack of trust)

Q2):     Is trust a big deal in most people’s eyes?

Q3):     What about God’s?

Q4):     What are some ways we can learn to trust people deeply in our lives?

[Verse] 2: 1 Corinthians 13:6-7

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Q1):     What do you think prevents us from being trusting? ( the opposite)

Q2):     What are some things that we can feel that way about? (unknown outcomes)

Q3):     How can someone eliminate these feelings? ( righteous hope)

Q4):     If Jesus had YOUR level of  trust, what would’ve been the outcome?

 [Verse] 3:  Psalm 19:7

The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

Q1):     How does, “Making wise the simple”  apply to the topic of trust?

Q2):     Why should God expect us to trust his statutes?

Q3):     Overall, why do you think God allows us to feel guilty?

Q4):     What can be some consequences for lacking trust in God’s plan?

Challenge:

As humans, we have a tendency to love what we trust and trust what we love but God doesn’t promote this restricted view. He tells us to “always trust.”  Doing this might be hard sometimes but through his message from the Bible, we can learn about his ultimate sacrifice for us. This level of trust is the defining example of how to live. By studying out the Bible, we can all see this and many other righteous characteristics to live by. With that, I encourage each and every one of you here to study the Bible with whoever invited you out or to continue studying.
